چکیده

[1] We present the results of new laboratory experiments that provide constraints on inter bubble film thinning and bubble coalescence as a consequence of liquid expulsion by gravitational and capillary forces. To ensure dynamic similarity to magmatic systems, the experiments are at small Reynolds numbers Re 1 ð Þ and cover a wide range of Bond numbers (10 3 Bo 10). Results indicate that at Bo< 0.25 film drainage is due to capillary forces, whereas at Bo> 0.25 gravitational forces result in film thinning. The film drainage time scale is given by t C ln ( ) and is orders of magnitude faster than often assumed for magmatic systems. Here, C 10 is an empirical constant and is the ratio of initial film thickness to film thickness at the time of rupture and is the characteristic capillary or buoyancy time scale at values of Bo< 0.25 and Bo> 0.25, respectively.

Influence of acoustic pressure and bubble sizes on the coalescence of two contacting bubbles in an acoustic field.

In this study, the coalescence time between two contacting sub-resonance size bubbles was measured experimentally under an acoustic pressure ranging from 10kPa to 120kPa, driven at a frequency of 22.4kHz. The coalescence time obtained under sonication was much longer compared to that calculated by the film drainage theory for a free bubble surface without surfactants. It was found that under th...

Thin-film Encapsulation of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Using Single and Multilayer Structures of MgF2, YF3 and ZnS

In this research, the lifetime of green organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) is studied using four passivation layers. To encapsulate the OLEDs, MgF2, YF3, composed of alternating MgF2/ZnS and YF3/ZnS layers were grown by thermal vacuum deposition. Measurements show that the device lifetime is significantly improved by using YF3 and ZnS as passivation layers. However, diodes encapsulated by Mg...

Modelling Film Drainage of a Bubble Hitting and Bouncing off a Surface

A theoretical model assuming lubrication theory has been developed for the interaction of bubbles rising under gravity against a glass plate. This system provides modelling challenges due to large deformations and widely different length scales where bubbles of micrometre to millimetre size form films that are on the nanometre range. Numerical simulations agree well with experimental data and r...

Spatiotemporal evolution of thin liquid films during impact of water bubbles on glass on a micrometer to nanometer scale.

Collisions between millimeter-size bubbles in water against a glass plate are studied using high-speed video. Bubble trajectory and shape are tracked simultaneously with laser interferometry between the glass and bubble surfaces that monitors spatial-temporal evolution of the trapped water film. Initial bubble bounces and the final attachment of the bubble to the surface have been quantified. W...

Experimental Investigation of Physical and Chemical Properties of Drilling Foam and Increasing its Stability

This investigation presents the effect of various parameters on foam stability and its rheological properties. The underlying idea of this experiment is generating of drilling foam with uniform bubbles. The main problem of foam using is controlling its stability during field application. The most important parameters which cause Instability in foam are gravity drainage, gas diffusion and bu...
